[G] AdWords, AdSense and DoubleClick for Publishers statistics temporarily delayed

Inside AdWords: AdWords, AdSense and DoubleClick for Publishers statistics temporarily delayed

As some of you may have noticed, since approximately 2pm PST this Monday, March 5th, there's been a delay for statistics reported in AdWords, AdSense and DoubleClick for Publishers. While the reports are delayed, whether you are an AdWords advertiser or an AdSense or DoubleClick publisher, your ads are serving as usual, with no disruptions.

This is a result of a temporary technical issue with our "statistics pipeline" (this is the system that translates the raw data into meaningful and actionable metrics for you). Our engineers are working hard to resolve the issue, and should have all your stats updated, current and complete by early Tuesday morning (PST).

We appreciate your patience. We'll update this post with any additional information and status reports.

[G] Introducing a new local search experience across your devices

Official Google Mobile Blog: Introducing a new local search experience across your devices

(Cross posted on the Inside Search Blog)

How often are you doing a Google search from your computer to find information about a place before going there? Now, next time you go to Google.com on your Android phone or iPhone, information about that place will be conveniently available under the new "Recent" icon. Calling, getting directions or seeing details about the places you just searched for is now only one tap away.

We provide this new convenience feature for users who have Web History enabled and are logged into Google when doing their search. Start by searching for a place on your PC or other devices, then login to Google.com's mobile homepage and check the Recent icon. Information about previously searched places will be available under the Recent icon for about a day.

The new "Recent" icon shows information about places you have recently searched for on any of your devices. Try swiping to the right to see more icons for other categories of places.

Next time you are heading to a place you have recently searched for, no need to worry if you can't remember the address or phone number. Just go to Google.com on your smartphone and tap on the "Recent" icon. We hope you find this new feature useful!

[G] Motorsports brands kick into high gear on YouTube

YouTube Blog: Motorsports brands kick into high gear on YouTube

Having spent years living in North Carolina, I witnessed first-hand the passion of NASCAR and motorsports fans. So it's not surprising that auto and motorcycle racing videos are some of the most searched and viewed on YouTube. Now that racing season is in full swing with the first Daytona 500 kicking off just days ago, fans have plenty to discover on YouTube - making it the ideal arena for marketers to capture consumer attention. Here are a few brands making the most of fan interest online.

Like many businesses, RevZilla, an online retailer of motorcycle riding gear, dove into video production with nothing more than a Flip camera and an idea. While they have a showroom in Philadelphia, they were challenged to reach their online customers' need to "look under the hood" of motorcycle gear. So they turned to video to showcase detailed breakdowns of motorcycle gear -- from helmets to gloves and riding jackets, and share their deep product knowledge and how-to content.

Meanwhile GoPro, the makers of HD video cameras and accessories, use racer's eye view of tracks like the Infineon Raceway captured by CEO Nicholas Woodman to reach fans. By building a library of videos created by the people using their cameras, GoPro was able to provide the ultimate product demo to their audience.

Even racing greats like Richard Petty of The Richard Petty Driving Experience are on YouTube to give customers a behind-the-wheel look at racing 165 mph in a NASCAR race car. The Richard Petty Driving Experience pushed the sales needle by creating a Summer of Speed package they promoted during slow summer months with YouTube video ads.

With millions of auto enthusiasts and racing fans coming to YouTube for entertainment, try out some of these ways to reach people on YouTube. Happy riding!

[G] Keeping an “OER mind” about shared resources for education

Google Research Blog: Keeping an "OER mind" about shared resources for education

Posted by Maggie Johnson, Director of Education and University Relations

With ever-increasing demands being placed on our education system, including new skill sets that need to be taught to create a pipeline that can fill 21st century jobs, we must figure out how to make high-quality education more accessible to more people without overburdening our existing educational institutions. The Internet, and the platforms, tools and programs it enables, will surely be a part of the answer to this challenge.

Open Educational Resources (OER) are one piece of the solution. OER are teaching and learning resources that anyone can share, reuse and remix. As part of our ongoing commitment to increasing access to a cost-effective, high-quality education, we're supporting the OpenCourseWare Consortium — a collaboration of higher education institutions and associated organizations from around the world creating OER — in organizing Open Education Week 2012, which begins today.

An example of OER in action is OpenStax, a recent non-profit initiative of Rice University and Connexions to offer students free, professional quality textbooks that meet scope and sequence requirements for several courses. They believe that these books could save students over $90 million in the next five years. Non-profit isn't the only model for open education. Flat World Knowledge has built a business around OER by providing free online access to open textbooks, then selling print-on-demand copies and supplemental materials.

We'll be acknowledging OER week through a panel event in Washington, DC, and over on our +Google in Education page, where we'll be posting articles and hosting Hangouts to share stories and interviews about the benefits of open education resources. Opening these resources to everyone can improve the quality of education while getting more out of our investments in educational resources. We hope you'll join us in celebrating Open Education Week. Go to openeducationweek.org to learn more and get involved.
