[G] Helping publishers get the most from display advertising with Admeld Posted: 15 Jun 2011 03:58 AM PDT DoubleClick Publisher Blog: Helping publishers get the most from display advertising with Admeld(Cross-posted on the Official Google blog) However, we often hear from major website publishers that ad management today is still mind-numbingly complicated and inefficient. We've been investing in our publisher tools to try and improve this landscape and have made great progress, but we think we can do even better. To help major publishers get the most out of the rapidly changing and growing display ad landscape, we've signed an agreement to acquire Admeld, a New York-based yield optimization firm. Here's a basic summary of the display ad industry, from the perspective of major publishers. There are lots of different ways that they can sell their display ad space. Often, they'll sell space directly to advertisers or agencies, using an ad server to actually deliver and measure the ads (like Microsoft's Atlas, AOL's AdTech, DoubleClick's DFP, Yahoo's APT, OpenX, Zedo, 24/7 Real Media and others). Alternatively, they'll make their ad space available indirectly—to hundreds of ad networks (like Advertising.com, Specific Media, Collective, 24/7, ValueClick, Vibrant, AdSense, Undertone and others), each with thousands of advertisers, or to various advertising exchanges or technology platforms (like Yahoo's Right Media, OpenX, DoubleClick Ad Exchange, ContextWeb, AdBrite, AppNexus and others) that match them with ad buyers (like ad networks and demand side platforms) who represent advertisers, in real-time marketplaces. Some publishers also work with a "yield optimization" provider (such as Rubicon Project, Pubmatic and others) that supplies technology to select ads from across these many indirect options, while providing personalized service and support. In a very complex and rapidly growing display ad landscape, that's what Admeld does. Providing better ad management services to publishers is an area that has seen a huge amount of investment in recent months. Formed just over three years ago, the Admeld team is an example of the huge strides the industry is making—it has quickly developed a great service that is helping many major publishers manage their ad space more efficiently and profitably. By combining Admeld's services, expertise and technology with Google's offerings, we're investing in what we hope will be an improved era of flexible ad management tools for major publishers. Together with Admeld, we hope to make display advertising simpler, more efficient and more valuable, provide improved support and services, and enable publishers to make more informed decisions across all their ad space. These are all things our publisher partners have been asking us to further invest in. Of course, Admeld will continue to support other ad networks, demand side platforms, exchanges and ad servers, to yield the best possible results for publishers. We believe that this investment will be an important step to help online publishers, and will further improve and grow the display advertising industry as a whole. Posted: 15 Jun 2011 03:41 AM PDT Inside Google Books: Spring Travel to SeattlePosted by Ariel Levine, Google eBooksLast month I went to visit a friend in Seattle. Wanting to make the most of it, I did three things to prepare: (1) I asked my friends for advice on where to go, (2) read up on Seattle's demographics, major economic players, and history, and (3) perused Google eBooks for travel guides. Initially, I simply typed "Seattle" in the Google eBooks search box, but then I decided to refine my search "By Subject," and selected "Travel." After scanning the samples for Our Seattle by Barbara Sleeper and Mike Sedam, Frommer's Seattle 2011, Seattle by Beth Taylor, as well as countless other titles, I settled on one, loaded it onto an eReader, and packed for my flight. I'm happy to report the trip was lovely and the weather held. I ended up being able to fit a lot into my two and a half days. I made it to the Space Needle, which was crucial to my trip as it reminds me of the film Sleepless in Seattle, my many years watching Frasier and of course, the Twilight Saga - not to mention Robert Pattinson's oh-so-famous pout! We also spent time in Belltown, Pike's Place Market, and Capitol Hill. I even snuck in a trip on Seattle's Central Link light rail, which was remarkably quiet, mostly above ground, and rivaled New York's subway system in terms of cleanliness. Last, but not least, you'll be happy to hear that I made it to meet the Fremont troll. [G] Clarifying our ad implementation policies Posted: 14 Jun 2011 05:59 PM PDT Inside AdSense: Clarifying our ad implementation policiesWe've recently made some changes to the language of our program policies. We highly encourage publishers who have signed the AdSense online Terms and Conditions to check the AdSense program policies often, and we'd like to take a moment to clarify our ad implementation policies and mention a few updates that have been made.Publishers are encouraged to experiment with a variety of placements and ad formats to enhance the user experience and thereby maximize their earnings. However, altering the behavior, targeting, or appearance of AdSense ads without explicit approval from Google is generally prohibited. This behavior includes but is not limited to placing ad code in iframes in such a way that manipulates the standard behavior, targeting or delivery of ads. An iframe is an HTML tag used in web design that allows a webpage, picture, or graphic to be displayed in a frame within another page. Our policies have always disallowed the misuse of iframes, and recently we clarified our language to explicitly prohibit the misuse of iframes in our program policies. Improperly iframed ads are a disservice to our advertisers since the ad itself can be obscured. Not only are they not viewable, these implementations can lead to accidental clicks if these hidden ads are placed in a location that users frequently click. Please see below for an example of a partially hidden banner. Hidden iframed ads is one form of misuse. The other is cross-domain iframing abuse. Cross-domain iframes are used to frame content from a different site. This type of implementation can allow other sites to frame ads that belong to another site without the publisher's knowledge. As a result, we've modified our Ad Behavior policy to the following: AdSense code may not be altered, nor may the standard behavior, targeting or delivery of ads be manipulated in any way that is not explicitly permitted by Google. This includes but is not limited to the following: clicking Google ads may not result in a new browser window being launched, nor may Google ads be placed in an IFRAME. We're aware of certain ad implementations that require the valid use of iframes. As per our program policies, exceptions to our policies are permitted only with authorization from Google. With our updated language, our goal is to be more proactive about enforcing the misuse of iframes. Iframing is not only deceptive when improperly implemented, but it often leads to unintended behavioral outcomes that result in policy violations, such as the double-serving of ads. As our program policies also note, we reserve the right to disable ad serving to sites and/or accounts that fail to comply with these policies without permission from Google. To best adhere to our policies and experience better targeting results, we recommend pasting our ad code directly into the source of your web page HTML. We hope you found this clarification to our program policies useful. If you have any questions regarding iframe policies or program policies in general, feel free to contact us. To help ensure the good standing of your account, we encourage you to check your content and implementations on a regular basis. You can also stay informed about policy updates by revisiting our Help Center, our Help Forum, and subscribing to this blog for updated posts, tips, and upcoming AdSense events. If you find sites within our network that are clearly violating these guidelines, we encourage you to report them to us. [G] Add +1 to help your site stand out Posted: 14 Jun 2011 05:59 PM PDT Inside AdSense: Add +1 to help your site stand out(Cross-posted on the Webmaster Central and Social Web blogs)When we introduced the +1 button in March, Google search took a small step in an important direction. Search results can be more helpful, and more personal, when recommendations from the people you trust are there to guide your way. The +1 button can help publishers, too. As potential visitors see recommendations from their friends and contacts beneath your Google search results, you could see more, and better qualified, traffic coming from Google. Since we announced +1, we've gotten lots of requests from Google search users and webmasters alike for +1 buttons in more places than just search results. That's why today we're making the +1 button available to sites across the web. Sometimes you want to recommend a web page after you've visited it. After all, how do you know you want to suggest that great article on Spanish tapas if you haven't read it yet? We've partnered with a few sites where you'll see +1 buttons over the coming days: You'll also start to see +1 buttons on other Google properties such as Android Market, Blogger, Product Search and YouTube. Adding +1 buttons to your pages is a great way to help your content stand out in Google search. By giving your visitors more chances to +1 your pages, your search results and search ads could show up with +1 annotations more often, helping users see when your pages are most likely to be useful. To get started, visit the +1 button tool on Google Webmaster Central. You'll be able to configure a small snippet of JavaScript and add it to the pages where you want +1 buttons to appear. You can pick from a few different button sizes and styles, so choose the +1 button that best matches your site's layout. In the common case, a press of the button +1's the URL of the page it's on. We recommend some easy ways to ensure this maps as often as possible to the pages appearing in Google search results. If your site primarily caters to users outside of the US and Canada, you can install the +1 button code now; the +1 button is already supported in 44 languages. However, keep in mind that +1 annotations currently only appear for English search results on Google.com. We're working on releasing +1 to searchers worldwide in the future. If you have users who love your content (and we bet you do), encourage them to spread the word! Add the +1 button to help your site stand out with a personal recommendation right at the moment of decision, on Google search. To stay current on updates to the +1 button large and small, please subscribe to the Google Publisher Buttons Announce Group. For advanced tips and tricks, check our Google Code site. Finally, if you have any questions about using the +1 button on your websites, feel free to drop by the Webmaster Help Forum. For mobile websites, AdSense will automatically detect the type of phone viewing your site and deliver ads to match. For example, if someone views your site through an iPhone, we'll deliver ads specifically designed for high-end phones. [G] Our first round of Google Research Awards for 2011 Posted: 14 Jun 2011 03:17 PM PDT Official Google Research Blog: Our first round of Google Research Awards for 2011Posted by Maggie Johnson, Director of Education & University RelationsWe've just finished awarding the latest round of Google Research Awards, which provide funding to full-time faculty working on research in areas of mutual interest with Google. A record number of submissions came in this round, and we are delighted to be funding 112 awards across 21 different focus areas for a total of more than $6.75 million. The subject areas that received the highest level of support were systems and infrastructure, human computer interaction, Geo/maps and machine learning. Thanks to strong international collaborations, 23% of the funding in this round was awarded to universities outside the U.S. In prior years, we've used this blog post to highlight some of our top-ranked projects, but this year, we'd like to give you an inside look into how we determine the award recipients. Designating the awards involves a careful and detailed review process. First, we have a set of internal research leads, each a well-known expert in their field, review all the proposals in their area. They assess the proposals on merit, innovation, connection to Google's products and services and fit with our overall research agenda. The research leads then assign several volunteer reviewers—culled from experts on their team or other Google engineers holding PhDs—to weigh each proposal. All these reviews are recorded in an internal grant administration system, and the research leads make their funding recommendations. These recommendations are aggregated and a series of committee meetings are run, one for each research area. The research lead attends, along with members of the university relations team and executives in research. This committee reviews each proposal that the research lead has recommended for funding, using the same criteria mentioned above. This additional review process may change the proposal rankings and sometimes brings back other proposals for reconsideration. Once the committee meetings are complete, we make the final funding decisions, which are based on the available budget and balancing the funding across research areas and geographic regions. The final decisions are reviewed one last time by research management, and then we distribute the awards to the selected faculty. As the number of submissions for these research awards continues to grow, we remain committed to a merit-based review process with effective checks and balances. Congratulations to the well-deserving recipients of this round's awards, and if you are interested in applying for the next round (deadline is August 1), please visit our website for more information. [G] Instant Mix for Music Beta by Google Posted: 14 Jun 2011 03:17 PM PDT Official Google Research Blog: Instant Mix for Music Beta by GooglePosted by Douglas Eck, Research ScientistMusic Beta by Google was announced at the Day One Keynote of Google I/O 2011. This service allows users to stream their music collections from the cloud to any supported device, including a web browser. It's a first step in creating a platform that gives users a range of compelling music experiences. One key component of the product, Instant Mix, is a playlist generator developed by Google Research. Instant Mix uses machine hearing to extract attributes from audio which can be used to answer questions such as "Is there a Hammond B-3 organ?" (instrumentation / timbre), "Is it angry?" (mood), "Can I jog to it?" (tempo / meter) and so on. Machine learning algorithms relate these audio features to what we know about music on the web, such as the fact that Jimmy Smith is a jazz organist or that Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade are similar artists. From this we can predict similar tracks for a seed track and, with some additional sequencing logic, generate Instant Mix playlists from songs in a user's locker. Because we combine audio analysis with information about which artists and albums go well together, we can use both dimensions of similarity to compare songs. If you pick a mellow track from an album, we will make a mellower playlist than if you pick a high energy track from the same album. For example, here we compare short Instant Mixes made from two very different tracks by U2. The first Instant Mix comes from "Mysterious Ways," an upbeat, danceable track from Achtung Baby with electric guitar and heavy percussion.
Compare this to a short Instant Mix made from a much more laid back U2 cut, "MLK" from the album Unforgettable Fire. This track has delicate vocals on top of a sparse synthesizer background and no percussion.
Our approach also allows us to create mixes from music in the long tail. Are you the lead singer in an unknown Dylan cover band? Even if your group is new or otherwise unknown, Instant Mix can still use audio similarity to match your tracks to real Dylan tracks (provided, of course, that you sing like Bob and your band sounds like The Band). Our goal with Instant Mix is to build awesome playlists from your music collection. We achieve this by using machine learning to blend a wide range of information sources, including features derived from the music audio itself. Though we're still in beta, and still have a lot of work to do, we believe Instant Mix is a great tool for music discovery that stands out from the crowd. Give it a try! [G] After the award: students and mentors Posted: 14 Jun 2011 03:17 PM PDT Official Google Research Blog: After the award: students and mentorsPosted by Leslie Yeh Johnson, University Relations ManagerFor the past two years, we've looked forward to honoring the best and the brightest graduate students pursuing doctoral degrees around the globe through Google's fellowship program. We're thrilled to be supporting these students with a monetary gift, but what happens after the awards are given out? An important component of our fellowship program is the Google research mentor. Each fellowship student is paired with a full-time Googler based on mutual research interests. The idea is that the mentors provide a different point of view from the students' day-to-day academic world, introduce them to a professional network which will last their entire career and provide meaningful context and feedback based on their own experiences as the students work their way through graduate school. In return, the Googler has the unique opportunity to mentor one of the top students in the field and foster a future leader in technology. Jason Mars of the University of Virginia was awarded the 2010 Google U.S./Canada Fellowship in Compiler Technology. Robert Hundt, a compiler and datacenter researcher at Google, was Jason's research mentor. Here, they share how a fellowship turned out to be much more than just an award: In Jason's words When I first met Robert at a research conference, I didn't realize he would become one of the most important mentors I've had. Beyond our match in personality and thinking styles, Robert took an interest in shaping and sharpening me as a researcher and engineer, and I've benefited greatly from his guidance. I realized after my first internship that Google faces some of the most compelling research problems in computer science today. Robert's mentorship combined with my Google Fellowship have prompted me to delve deeper into these open problems. In fact, I ended up returning to Google for two subsequent internships. Together, Robert and I have published a number of research papers (with more on the way) and filed two Google patent applications. Our relationship is greater than just mentor and mentee—we are colleagues and friends. In Robert's words Given the high expectations we have for our interns, it's no surprise to me that one of our most successful interns, Jason Mars, is a recipient of an esteemed Google Fellowship. A three-time returning intern, Jason brought great levels of enthusiasm, creativity, problem solving and problem finding skills to our team, and kept us all on our toes by challenging assumptions and the status quo. He has written half a dozen conference and workshop papers and has built relationships with many people, not just at Google, but throughout Silicon Valley. Jason is well on his way to become a renowned expert in datacenter performance and contention issues. I am very proud of him and grateful to be part of his journey. I believe I may have learned as much from him, with his limitless energy and technical creativity, as he has learned during his time at Google. Lastly, and most importantly, I have won a friend. 2011 Google Fellowships This year, we we will be awarding fellowships to 34 promising young research students around the globe. These awards support their tuition and stipend, as well as a Google research mentor. Click here for a PDF of all of our Google Fellowship recipients. Congratulations to all the fellows; we look forward to seeing you move technology forward. [G] Knocking down barriers to knowledge Posted: 14 Jun 2011 03:12 PM PDT Official Google Blog: Knocking down barriers to knowledgeAs much as technology has advanced, there are still many barriers between you and the answers you're looking for—whether you're juggling a clunky mobile keyboard or waiting for a website to load. Today we held a media event in San Francisco where we talked about some of the latest things we're doing to tackle these barriers on mobile, announced that we're bringing our speech recognition and computer vision technology to the desktop, and took the next step for Google Instant—Instant Pages. Here you can see that mobile search traffic growth over the past three years (the red line) is comparable to overall Google search traffic growth over the same duration (the blue line) but earlier in our history. One of the technologies driving this growth is speech recognition. With Voice Search, you don't have to type on a tiny touchscreen. You can just speak your query and the answer is on the way. We've invested tremendous energy into improving the quality of our recognition technology—for example, today we teach our English Voice Search system using 230 billion words from real queries so that we can accurately recognize the phrases people are likely to say. As the quality has increased, so has usage: in the past year alone, Voice Search traffic has grown six-fold, and every single day people speak more than two years worth of voice to our system. We first offered speech recognition on mobile search, but you should have that power no matter where you are. You should never have to stop and ask yourself, "Can I speak for this?"—it should be ubiquitous and intuitive. So we've added speech recognition into search on desktop for Chrome users. If you're using Chrome, you'll start to see a little microphone in every Google search box. Simply click the microphone, and you can speak your search. This can be particularly useful for hard-to-spell searches like [bolognese sauce] or complex searches like [translate to spanish where can I buy a hamburger]. Voice Search on desktop is rolling out now on google.com in English, but in the meantime you can check it out in our video: Searching with speech recognition started first on mobile, and so did searching with computer vision. Google Goggles has enabled you to search by snapping a photo on your mobile phone since 2009, and today we're introducing Search by Image on desktop. Next to the microphone on images.google.com, you'll also see a little camera for the new Search by Image feature. If you click the camera, you can upload any picture or plug in an image URL from the web and ask Google to figure out what it is. Try it out when digging through old vacation photos and trying to identify landmarks—the search [mountain path] probably isn't going to tell you where you were, but computer vision may just do the trick. Search by Image is rolling out now globally in 40 languages. We're also releasing Chrome and Firefox extensions that enable you to search any image on the web by right-clicking. Whether you type, speak or upload a photo, once you've indicated what you're looking for the next step in your search is to sift through the results and pick one. To make this faster, last year we introduced Google Instant, which gives you search results while you type. We estimated Google Instant saves you between two and five seconds on typical searches. But once you've picked a result, you click, and then wait again for the page to load—for an average of about five seconds. We want to help you save some of that time as well, so today we took the next step for Google Instant: Instant Pages. Instant Pages can get the top search result ready in the background while you're choosing which link to click, saving you yet another two to five seconds on typical searches. Let's say you're searching for information about the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, so you search for [dc folklife festival]. As you scan the results deciding which one to choose, Google is already prerendering the top search result for you. That way when you click, the page loads instantly. Instant Pages will prerender results when we're confident you're going to click them. The good news is that we've been working for years to develop our relevance technology, and we can fairly accurately predict when to prerender. To use Instant Pages, you'll want to get our next beta release of Chrome, which includes prerendering (for the adventurous, you can try Instant Pages today with the developer version). It's one more step towards an even faster web. To learn more about today's news, visit our new Inside Search website at www.google.com/insidesearch. [G] Living Life in a Day and a summer in Australia at the Sydney Film Festival Posted: 14 Jun 2011 01:01 PM PDT YouTube Blog: Living Life in a Day and a summer in Australia at the Sydney Film FestivalThis past weekend at the Sydney Film Festival, we in the Australia office saw a single day on earth, a legendary summer to be remembered and the vision of thousands of YouTubers from all over the world on center stage. Along with the Australian premiere of "Life in a Day," the world was introduced to "We Were Here," a feature film made by YouTubers about summer in Australia. From January to April 2011, YouTubers down under submitted their videos to create an archive of events and experiences from a summer not-to-be-forgotten. Everything from sunsets at the beach, bats in the night, to extraordinary events in Queensland were uploaded to form a new visualization of the Australian summer map. These stories were pulled together by up and coming Australian director Amy Gebhardt, mentored by Dr. George Miller of "Happy Feet," "Mad Max" and "Babe." To celebrate the world premiere of "We Were Here," we'll be featuring the film on YouTube for a short time before it makes its way around the film festival circuit. Have a look at this collective vision of the Australian summer, as told by director Amy Gebhardt: Together, these two films are milestones in the evolution of radically inclusive film-making that is taking shape all over the world. Ernesto Soriano III, Product Marketing Manager, YouTube Australia recently watched "1000 words for summer." [G] Introducing new features to mobile search Posted: 14 Jun 2011 11:43 AM PDT Official Google Mobile Blog: Introducing new features to mobile searchOur thirst for knowledge extends beyond the time we spend in front of our desktop computers. At Google, we are seeing mobile search grow at an exponential rate, increasing five-fold worldwide in just the past two years - a rate comparable to the early days of desktop Google Search. Today on mobile, we can get whatever information we're looking for anytime, anywhere. And I'm not just talking about looking up basic information like the weather or a stock quote, which is what people used to do in the early days of mobile search. As mobile devices have become more powerful and connected to faster networks, smartphone users are doing a surprisingly diverse set of search tasks -- from simple lookups, to tasks that involve multiple complex searches. But it's not always easy to search from a mobile device, especially with the smaller screens and keyboards. We've worked relentlessly to make mobile search faster, easier, and more intuitive with features like autocomplete, Voice Search, Google Goggles, Google Instant and Instant Previews on mobile. Our work in mobile has now inspired desktop innovations like Voice Search and Search by Image, two new ways to search from your desktop, announced today at our Inside Search media event. We're also excited to introduce two new mobile features designed to make mobile search even better. With more searches happening when people are on the go, we've noticed an increase in searches for nearby places. To make it easier for people to search for what's around them, we've introduced new shortcuts to commonly searched local categories, like restaurants, coffee shops and bars, in the form of icons on the mobile google homepage (www.google.com): Shortcut icons appear at the bottom of the mobile homepage. Tap "More", to select from additional popular categories like shopping, ATMs, gas stations, etc., a new part of our simplified Places homepage (www.google.com/m/places). On the results page, you'll see a map with markers for your current location and places around you. When you scroll through the results, the map remains at the top of the page and adjusts automatically to the listing you are looking at. That way, you can see the listing information while still getting location context from the map. Tapping on a result will quickly show you more about a place including reviews and other useful details. Discovering great places nearby has never been easier on your mobile phone. Another mobile improvement we've introduced today is an easier way to build longer, more complicated searches. You can now add suggested phrases to the search box and "build" your search piece by piece. This feature is already available on the Google Search app for Android and iOS devices and we're now making this available on www.google.com from your mobile browser. Watch the video below to see how you can search faster with less typing. These new mobile features are now available on www.google.com on Android (version 2.2+) and iOS (version 4.0+) in 40 languages worldwide. We hope you enjoy these new search features and we look forward to bringing you further improvements by making mobile search even faster, easier, and more useful. [G] Tips & Tricks: Using the description field in your documents list Posted: 14 Jun 2011 08:24 AM PDT Docs Blog: Tips & Tricks: Using the description field in your documents listYou may not have noticed the description field for items in your documents list, but descriptions hold great potential for sharing information and file management. When you have an item selected, you'll see information about the item in the details pane to the right of your documents list, including a Description section. If you don't see the details pane, click the double-arrow in the upper right of your documents list to expand it. What you add to the description, in addition to the contents of the doc itself, can be found when you use the search box in Google Docs. This opens up the possibility of using the description for keywords and tagging. So, if your description contains the words "Astronaut, Space" that file will show in your search results when you do a Google Docs search for "astronaut" or "space." Descriptions also allow you to add clickable links. If it's important for you to reference a website on an item, simply copy and paste the URL into your description. When the details pane is open, you'll be able to click the link. You can also make your description stand out with formatting:
If you have other suggestions for ways you've used the description field, please add them in the comments below. [G] Helping homeowners harness the sun Posted: 14 Jun 2011 07:12 AM PDT Official Google Blog: Helping homeowners harness the sun(Cross-posted from the Green Blog)Imagine sitting on your patio watching the sun's rays pass overhead, knowing that they power your home with clean energy—at a cost that's less that what you would have paid using just the grid. That's what my colleague, engineer Michael Flaster, has been doing at his home in Menlo Park, Calif. since March of this year. He did it with the help of a company called SolarCity, which enables homeowners and businesses to begin using solar energy to power their homes and buildings. Today, we're announcing that we've investing $280 million to create a fund that will help SolarCity finance more solar installations across the country. This is our largest clean energy project investment to date and brings our total invested in the clean energy sector to more than $680 million. We've also launched a partnership to offer SolarCity services to Googlers at a discount. In SolarCity's innovative financing model, the company covers installation and maintenance of the system over the life of the lease. You can prepay, or pay nothing upfront after which you make monthly solar lease payments. All told, Michael will save $100 per month on his energy bills this year, and more than $16,000 over his 15 year lease, after factoring in his lease payment and lower energy bills. We believe the world needs a wide range of clean energy options in the future, each serving different needs. We've already invested in several large-scale renewable energy projects, so we're excited that this new partnership with SolarCity helps people power their homes directly with solar energy, too. We think "distributed" renewable energy (generated and used right at home) is a smart way to use solar photovoltaic (PV) technology to improve our power system since it helps avoid or alleviate distribution constraints on the traditional electricity grid. Our investment is a quadruple-win for Google, SolarCity, its new customers and the environment. We continue to look for other renewable energy investments that make business sense and help develop and deploy cleaner sources of energy. Whether harnessing the sun on rooftops like Michael's or in the desert sands of the Mojave, it's all part of building a clean energy future. [G] Helping publishers get the most from display advertising with Admeld Posted: 14 Jun 2011 07:12 AM PDT Official Google Blog: Helping publishers get the most from display advertising with Admeld(Cross-posted on the DoubleClick Publisher Blog)It's now clear that investments in new technologies, new ad formats and improved buying and selling processes are helping to grow the display advertising pie. This benefits publishers who make more money from display ads, users who receive free ad-funded content and marketers who are able to grow their businesses online. However, we often hear from major website publishers that ad management today is still mind-numbingly complicated and inefficient.
